You will notice that our arks are designed around the traditional triangular gable. This provides for a very stable structure which is strong without being too heavy, the single ridge with ventilator at both ends, does, if properly proportioned, collect and extract the stale air and dust in an admirable fashion, without causing a draft. Extra temporary insulation during a spell of extremely cold weather can be accomplished using just two pieces of suitable material (NOT polystyrene because the hens will eat it).
The decreasing headroom under the sloping roof will only become a problem if the house is too small for the birds to use it. The areas at the edges that are too low for the birds to occupy, together with the space above the nest boxes, provides a healthy volume of air space that is less easily compromised through overcrowding than in a vertically walled house with the nest boxes outside, and whilst on the subject of nest boxes, what could possibly be more simple and trouble free than nest boxes just inside the door?
